This is the fudgy icing that mom has used for my birthday as long as I can remember.


2 Cups Sugar
3 T. Cocoa
¼ to ? Cup Milk
2 T. Butter
1 t. Vanilla


In medium saucepan stir Sugar and Cocoa together. Stir in Milk and NOW put in on the stove and cook over medium heat till just this side of softball stage. should be thick on the back of the spoon, but still glides off. Remove from heat and by hand beat in the Butter and Vanilla. Let this cool, beating occasionally.

Can by used as any pour type frosting but for my cake- Take hot cake out of oven and use a fork to poke holes all over the cake, pour about ¼ of the frosting over now being sure it goes in the holes. Let this cool and set a few minutes then pour remaining frosting on top of cake.
