I am not an Oatmeal fan, but seems like everyone else loves these and they are so very easy to make.

¾ cup Shortning
1 Cup Brown Sugar
½ Cup Sugar
1 Egg
¼ Cup Water
1 t. Vanilla
4 Cups Quaker Oats
1 Cup Flour
1 t. Salt
½ t. Baking Soda
1 Cup Raisins- Optional
1 cup Chopped Nuts-Optional

1. Preheat oven to 350°

2. Cream the Shortening, Sugars, Egg, Water and Vanilla till creamy

3. Beat in the remaining ingredients and mix well

4. Add the Raisins and Nuts last

5. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

6. Bake 8-10 minutes or till done.

Cool on newspaper- I suggest this for all cookies.

The best recipes are usually the simplest, just be sure to use quality ingredients. This one has been on the back of the Quaker Oats box for some time.
