Well, it looks like dragging those buckets and blankets out all spring was worth it. We did miss a few that we did not know had broke thru the ground, and I will tell you they look a little freaky. If the few we did not save don't grow out of it, I will replace them for this year and take the mutants to the farm and see if the bunnies eat them up. Here are some photos from the Hosta's,
I love how they start with this bright purple color at the bottom when they first break the ground. They then grow into these tall spirals. Bam, then they unfurl and are just there. Hosta's are nice low maintaince plants, and they don't seem to mind the really wet read floods we have in the backyard each year. These puppies are sometimes under 2 foot of water and once you get the mud washed off they are just fine.
I hope you can come to the Garden show on May 30 in the backyard. We have lots of different varietys and of course I did not keep all the names so quite a few will not have name tags. Here is a sneak peak at a chocie new annual this year- It is an African Daisy- found it over at Dutch's Nursery. I have it in a pot with Heliatrope which smells just divine and some lavender and white Daisys along with a tricolor Potato Vine. I think it should be a stand out pot. I just hope it gets enough sunshine. That concludes the Backyard update for today. we are at under 45 days now so lots of planting and weeding etc to be done. Volunteers ????
